                              ASSIGNING GROUP ROLES

Assigning group roles is a good way to make sure that each student is on task, has a sense of importance to the group and can contribute to a class project or discussion.

Making each student responsible for a set of information or goals is also a good way to help them retain this information. Even if they do not grasp the whole picture right away, they are ready with a small set of information that they, and they alone are responsible for.

Consider assigning roles in discussion or projects such as:

  • The LEADER
  • The RECORDER
  • The FACT CHECKER
  • The SPOKESPERSON

See the link below for further information on cooperative roles: (it has good information, even though the site is designed for teaching geoscience)
