Integrating IL into the First Year Experience

Emory has now employed a librarian specifically for the freshman class, to help alleviate library anxiety for students during their First Year Experience (FYE). Freshman Class Librarian Liz Cooper  feels that”Because freshmen haven’t yet declared a major, they often don’t get referred to an individual subject librarian as graduate students or upperclassmen do,” “Having a class librarian gives the newest members of the Emory community a personal connection to the library.” (quoted from article above)

Emory serves as a great model to other institutions who are considering hiring a librarian devoted to freshmen and FYE information literacy.
